In 2024, I faced one of the most challenging periods of my life. Within the span of a few months, I underwent three major surgeries: one for a cancerous tumor in my colon, another for a thoracic aortic aneurysm, and a third to repair an esophageal rupture. These surgeries left me hospitalized for nearly three months, separated from my two daughters, my husband, and our beloved dogs. It was an incredibly isolating and frightening time.


What helped me endure this horrendous chapter was mindfulness. Each day, I focused on the present moment—whether it was the rhythm of my breath, the warmth of sunlight streaming through the hospital window, or the sound of my daughters’ voices during phone calls. Instead of letting fear and despair consume me, I practiced acceptance and gratitude for small, positive moments. Mindfulness became my anchor, helping me navigate the physical pain and emotional turmoil with a sense of calm and resilience.


This experience taught me that mindfulness is not just a practice—it’s a lifeline. It reminded me of the strength we all have within us to face life’s challenges, one moment at a time.
